hp laserjet 4100 that I repaired for damage to the right front corner. It damaged the top, front, right front side cover, and the right top cover assembly. All those repairs went okay, but afterwords is when the fun started. Initally I just got a blank, but lit display panel. I reseated the ROM and memory modules, and refired it back up, only to get a display, but now an error code 55.0. The drive system never kicks in, and the fan (left side of print) kicks on, just for a second at power on and power off. I don't know the history of this printer, other than it came to me badly packaged from one of our stores which probably caused the damage. I understand it could be the formatter board, or the engine controller board. If this is probably the case, anyone know how to get it down further? I have reseated the formatter board, but no help. If it is the engine controller board, I understand the printer must be split, if so, is there a guide for this? While never formally trained on printers, I've worked on them for years (especially hp's), and I'm pretty good no the repair end. Is splitting this printer too big of a job for a non-formally trained tech?

 That is an iternal communications error. The first thing is to shut the printer and turn back on. If the error is still present the first item would be the firmware chip. I would remove the firmware and memory chips and reseat. Make sure you put the firmware chip back in the same slot. If that does not work, contact hp as they have a service not for firmware chip issues (not necessarily yours) and will replace it free. If not the chip it is either the formatter or the engine control board.
